If you have to go the HDMI route then maybe something like the Panasonic G7 would be better as it has a truly clean HDMI out. You need to step up to a 7D Series, 6D Series or 5D Series camera to have real “Clean HDMI” out. Canon does this with any camera body under $1000 so it’s also an issue on the 80D/90D/M6 MKII and the M50.

The only issue with the M50 and any “cheaper” Canon camera when using the HDMI out option is that the output is not fully “clean” and has the focus tracking box displayed, the only way to get rid of it is to turn off autofocus and use manual focus. If the software you want to use it with is not supported then you would need an HDMI capture card from AJA or Blackmagic Design to connect the camera to computer a video capture device. If your software is supported then you just would use the included USB cable and it would appear as if it was just a USB webcam.

I’m not sure exactly what apps are supported for the webcam utility. You should check the supported Apps in Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility software on their website.
